Research Development team members within the Medical School Office of Research design and implement services that help faculty become successful in obtaining and maintaining extramural funding and — once successful — share their expertise to help their colleagues do the same. Faculty members are encouraged to contact us for assistance with pre-award activities related to finding funding opportunities and to proposal development and editing.

Join our Research Development team on May 23 for our all new Team Science Workshop. This workshop will provide foundational information about team science, a demonstration of the Michigan Research Experts database, an overview of Medical School and MICHR resources available for team science initiatives, and a discussion with an expert panel of faculty members who have successfully garnered collaborative or large-scale funding. Boot Camp logoMentored Research Academy: R01 Boot Camp

The Mentored Research Academy: R01 Boot Camp — part of Michigan Medicine's Strategic Research Initiative -- is a 10-month, multi-tiered, proposal development program, in which early career faculty work in small groups with senior faculty coaches to prepare a competitive NIH R01 grant proposal.

Proposal Development

We offer proposal samplers, free in-house proposal editing, proposal preparation funding, assistance with development of large proposals, and lists of freelance writers and graphic designers.

We coordinate internal competitions for limited submission grants to foundations; all opportunities are hosted on the Medical School Competition Space. We also manage the bridging funding program via the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC), which helps support continuity of faculty research between large grants.
