Data from bariatric surgery patients supports genetics researchO'Rourke headshot

“I recently used DataDirect for cohort feasibility related to a project my colleagues and I are doing that is related to metabolism and genetic mutations. Knowing the number of patients who had recently undergone bariatric surgery at U-M, I was able to quickly ascertain the subset of those with a genetic sample in the Michigan Genomics Initiative (MGI). We quickly found that more than half the bariatric surgery patients had a SNP analysis available for further study, and were able to review a breakdown of the demographics, BMI, and other comorbidities for these patients. Armed with this knowledge, we are now contemplating a study to leverage these available resources to answer important questions about our patients.”
