Microscopy & Image Analysis Laboratory

MiCores Logo

The MIL Lab has transitioned to MiCores, a core management system by iLab Solutions. If you've not used MiCores before, you will be asked to identify which lab you belong to when you sign in for the first time. That means that you need to use this core management system to reserve time on any instrument or login to use any instrument.

What does this mean for you?

Most current Core users are preloaded into the system. This means that you should be already affiliated with your designated lab and simply need to login to the MiCores Portal with your Umich Credentials. Please make sure to use your @umich.edu email and NOT @med.umich.edu. Once logged in and accepted into a lab by a PI/Lab Manager, the system will enable you to place service requests, provide required approvals, and monitor progress.

Need to Get Started in the System?

Follow these quick steps (or download the PDF one-page instructions to set up an account):

  1. Login at umich.corefacilities.org using your uniqname and Level-1 password.
  2. All users must affiliate themselves with a PI or Lab Manager. After you register, you will request a lab affiliation by selecting a PI's name from the drop-down menu provided and submit the request. This needs to be approved by a lab manager or PI.
  3. Request Access to the MIL Lab.
  4. Navigate to the "My Labs" page in the left-hand navigation. You should be listed as a member under the membership tab.
  5. Ensure that your PI or Lab Manager has provided you with a shortcode(s) to request services.

About MIL

Established in 1978, the Microscopy and Image Analysis Laboratory (MIL) is a centralized operation including more than 3,000 square feet housing major equipment, used on a shared basis by investigators focusing mainly on studies of cell and tissue morphology and ultrastructure. It offers state-of-the-art equipment for microscopic imaging, including fluorescence microscopy, as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopy.

The MIL is a fee-for-service-based operation open to researchers from all departments within the University of Michigan, other institutions, and the industrial research community. In 2013, MIL joined the Biomedical Research Core Facilities, part of the Office of Research in the University of Michigan Medical School.
