Research

From trials of the first safe polio vaccine to the latest breakthroughs in treatments for neurological diseases, the University of Michigan continues to be at the forefront of pioneering biomedical research that significantly impacts human health. At $1.33 billion, the U-M is the top public university in research spending in the United States, and the Medical School is responsible for almost half of those research expenditures. And with the Fast Forward Medical Innovation program focused on nurturing commercialization and entrepreneurship, the U-M Medical School research enterprise offers a holistic approach to biomedical innovation for both faculty and potential external partners.

The U-M Medical School consistently ranks amongst U.S. News & World Report's top medical research schools, is an NIH Clinical and Translational Research Science Award institution, and is currently undergoing an enterprise-wide initiative to transform clinical trials. While facts like these are impressive, they only hint at what goes on behind the scenes. One of our greatest assets is our collegial, collaborative culture, an atmosphere where faculty, fellows, students, and research teams thrive in the shared pursuit of innovative science and improving patient care.
