The Biomedical Research Core Facilities are pleased to invite you to join us for the 6th annual Cores Technology & Services Showcase:

Speaking Sessions 10:30 AM-2:30 PM

Exhibit Hall Open: 11:30 AM-2:00 PM

Palmer Commons, 4th Floor

FREE lunch will be provided

Speaking Sessions include:

  • 10:30 AM: "How To Quickly Get Deeper Insights From Your 'Omics Data" with Cordelia Ziraldo, Ph.D., Advaita Bioinformatics (Plaza Room)
  • 11:00 AM: "Using CRISPR to Produce Genetically Engineered Lines" with Tom Lanigan, Ph.D., Director, Vector Core, and Thom Saunders, Ph.D., Director, Transgenic Animal Model Core (Forum Hall)
  • 12:00 PM: "The Long Read Revolution Continues: SMRT Sequencing Updates" with Jenny Alfrey, PacBio Sciences (Forum Hall)
  • 12:30 PM: "CRISPR Technology for Transgenic Animal Model Creation” with Seth Hanson, Ph.D., MilliporeSigma -- The benefits of using CRISPR technology to create knockout, conditional knockout and and knock-in animals will be discussed, along with various methods and CRISPR formats to optimize the process. (Forum Hall)
  • 1:00 PM: "Understanding Reproduction: the answer is in our CORES" with Core Expert User Award Winner Carol Elias, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Molecular Integrative Physiology and Ob-Gyn, University of Michigan (Forum Hall)
  • 2:00 PM: "Precision Sequencing for Precision Research" with Dian Beaubien, Qiagen. This session will give a brief description of the challenges faced with current targeted panels. It will discuss how and why UMIs (unique molecular indexes) can correct current PCR amplification errors resulting in superior results by incorporating random barcode (signature) into the original DNA or RNA molecules before amplification to preserve their uniqueness.

The Showcase brings together the Biomedical Research Core Facilities and their partner vendors as they share the latest technology and expertise in biomedical research.

Participating U-M cores, units and their partner vendors include:
