Upcoming Holiday Hours

Several units in the Medical School Office of Research will be closed or operating at limited capacity during the upcoming holiday season. Below is a list of operating schedules and plans for service areas that may have a direct impact on researchers. To ensure that your research needs are met quickly and efficiently before the end of the calendar year, please review and share these schedules with your team, plan ahead, and act early.

University Season Days begin on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 and end on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Unless otherwise noted below, offices will close at the end of business on Monday, December 24 and reopen on the morning of Wednesday, January 2.

Biomedical Research Core Facilities

As in past years, many staff in the Biomedical Research Core Facilities will be using University Season Days between December 25 and January 1. The schedule for the individual Cores during the holidays is given below.

  • Bioinformatics Core (B22 NCRC): Services will be unavailable Saturday, December 22 – Tuesday, January 1. Please contact Managing Director Rich McEachin, Ph.D. with specific questions.
  • Biomedical Research Store (C580 MSRB II; 2297 LSI; A681 BSRB; 8052 Brehm; Rm 179, B14 NCRC): The deadline for special orders to be placed will be Tuesday, November 20 at 8:45 AM for Corning, and 9:45 AM for all others. Limited locations will be open between 8:15 AM – 5:00 PM on Monday, December 24. All locations will be closed from Tuesday, December 25 – Tuesday, January 1. All Store sites will reopen at 8:15 AM on Wednesday, January 2. The deadline for special orders to be placed will be 8:45 AM for Corning, 9:45 AM for all others, on Wednesday, December 19.
  • DNA Sequencing Core (B14 NCRC): The BSB, LSI and Brehm sample drop-off locations will be closed on Wednesday, November 21 and Monday, November 26, reopening on Tuesday, November 27. The DNA Sequencing Core’s remote sample drop-off locations will then follow their normal schedules through Friday, December 21. The BSB, LSI and Brehm sample drop-off locations will be closed Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1. Our C562 MSRB II location will be open on Monday, December 24 from 8:30 AM – 12:15 PM and 1:15 PM – 4:30 PM for non-RNA sample drop-off and qPCR appointments. However, there will not be any technical or account support available on Monday, December 24. The NCRC Processing Lab and NCRC drop-off site will close at 4:30 PM on Friday, December 21 and re-open at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, January 2. All remote sample drop-off locations will resume their normal schedules on Wednesday, January 2.   • Epigenomics Core (C568 MSRB II): The Epigenomics Core will be closed from Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1. Please contact Managing Director Claudia Lalancette, Ph.D. with any questions.
  • Flow Cytometry Core (C574 MSRB II; A701 BSRB; 134D B20W NCRC): The Flow Cytometry Core will be closed Monday, December 24 – Tuesday, December 25. We will be operating on a limited basis between December 26 through January 2 at the MSRB location only. Please use the MiCORES website to schedule your requests.
  • Metabolomics Core (6120 Brehm): Services will be unavailable after 5:00 PM on Friday, December 21. Services will resume at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, January 2. Please contact Core Director Maureen Kachman, Ph.D. with questions.
  • Microscopy Core (A830 BSRB; 53S B20 NCRC; 5631 Med Sci II): Microscopy facilities will be partially staffed between Monday, December 24 and Wednesday, January 2. There will be no staff available on Tuesday, December 25 and Tuesday, January 1. As always, trained uses who already have access can continue to use the facilities on their own at any time.   • Proteomics and Peptide Synthesis Core (C570D/C568 MSRB II): Services will be unavailable after 2:00 PM on Friday, December 21. The Core will resume services at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 3. Please contact Core Director Henriette Remmer, Ph.D. with specific questions.
  • Sample Preservation Freezer Facility (MSRB II): Please contact Manager Ati Tislericswith specific questions.
  • Transgenic Animal Model Core (2578 MSRB II/2526 MSRB I): Services will be unavailable after 4:00 PM on Friday, December 21. The Core will reopen at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, January 2. Please email tgcore@umich.edu with specific questions.
  • Vector Core (C552 MSRB II): Services will be unavailable beginning at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 21 through Friday, November 23. The Core will reopen on Monday, November 26. Services will be unavailable after 12:00 PM on Friday, December 21. The Core will reopen on Wednesday, January 2. Please contact Core Director Tom Lanigan, Ph.D. with specific questions.

Calendar Review & Analysis Office

CRAO observes the University Season Days between December 25 and January 1. They will close at the end of business on Monday, December 24 and reopen on the morning of Wednesday, January 2.

Central Biorepository

The CBR will be closed December 24 - January 1. CBR staff will be contacting study teams directly about individual holiday schedules and to agree on how biospecimens should be managed during this time. The last day to receive specimens at the CBR is Friday, December 21. CBR staff will be on-call to respond to emergencies.

Clinical Trials Support Office

The CTSO will close at the end of the business day on Saturday, December 22, 2018 and will re-open at the start of the business day on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 to allow our staff to take advantage of University of Michigan Season Days. CTSU staff will reach out to study teams they are supporting to make individual arrangements during that time.

Grant Services & Analysis

The Grant Services & Analysis staff will be out of the office from Tues, December 25 through the start of business Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

If you have an emergency proposal* for institutional review, you will be able to reach the Grants staff by phone. *Emergencies are proposals that need to be submitted by Thursday, January 3 or sooner.   Please leave a message at the main Grant Office phone number at 734-763-4272, which will be monitored.  If needed, Grant staff will facilitate contacting ORSP.

Institutional Review Boards (IRBMED)

IRBMED observes the University Season Days between December 25 and January 1. They will close at the end of business on Monday, December 24 and reopen on the morning of Wednesday, January 2.
