Upcoming Deadline for Clinical Trials Academy Applications

October 4, 2019

The deadline for the 2020 Class of Clinical Trials Academy is quickly approaching. Candidates should submit their full application no later than October 11, 2019.

The Clinical Trials Academy is a joint initiative between clinical departments and the Medical school offering early-career faculty and new clinician investigators a combination of lectures and hands-on small group sessions to teach the complex and changing landscape of clinical trials. The academy will teach investigators how to construct the most pertinent hypotheses, the fundamentals of clinical trials design, and develop scientifically rigorous and practical protocols for a broad landscape of clinical trials. Participants will also receive practical tips for successful collaborations among investigators with complementary expertise across divisions and departments and industry partners.

The lectures and hands-on sessions will occur in the afternoon on the third Thursday of each month from January to July 2020. These sessions will be a combination of two-hour lectures and two hours of hands-on group work with an assigned faculty mentor. Trainees are expected to work on their protocols and to meet with their faculty mentors between these sessions to enhance and solidify the training. The attendance to all in-person sessions, as well as the timely completion of each homework assignment, is mandatory for successful graduation.

Each application should contain:

  • Letter of Support from the Division Chief/Department Chair outlining the candidate’s skills and qualifications as well as the division/department commitment to allow candidates to close clinical activities one afternoon a month for the duration of the academy and have enough additional time to finalize homework and assignments as outlined above.
  • NIH Biosketch
  • 1 to 2 page proposal including the main scientific question and its significance, and an outline of the study that they plan to work on during the program.
