New Onboarding Resource for Research Administrators

March 20, 2023

Orienting research administrators new to Michigan Medicine is a collaborative, and sometimes daunting, effort. All the training and resource materials can be hard for someone to find on their own - and time consuming for you to walk them through. We are excited to announce the launch of the newly created Research Administration: Onboarding & Introduction to Resources You Should Know page which includes:

  • Recommended access to UM systems commonly used in research administration.
  • Self-study opportunities, tools, and resources for pre & post-award research administration.
  • Professional development opportunities to support career growth.

Information is provided in a consolidated format to orient new research administrators in their first 30-90 days. The pre- & post-award sections are loosely organized in a suggested order to walk research administrators through the activities to support faculty over the project lifecycle. It is presented in an easy-to-read format - in case they need to dive into a topic just in time.

Additionally, a system access section includes a PDF of suggested Online Access Request System (OARS ) roles and the required My Linc training for the role when applicable. And the professional development section highlights opportunities to further grow and develop in the profession.

Thanks to those who shared ideas and comments. Special thanks to Beth Brant for heading up the initiative and Latrice Faulkner, Office of Research ROMS Fellow, who was instrumental in collecting feedback from stakeholders and designing content for this project.
