CBR Group ShotThe Biorepository Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) awarded accreditation to the UMMS Central Biorepository (CBR) again based on results of an on-site inspection conducted by CAP inspectors in April. The inspection team included practicing biorepositorian and quality assurance professionals.

The laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“We are thrilled to be re-accredited by the College of American Pathologists Biorepository program,” said Director Victoria Blanc, Ph.D. “The CBR operates at the highest standards, ensuring that the biospecimens under our care are secure and molecular integrity remains intact. In this way, we are able to provide high-quality, highly annotated biospecimens suitable for basic, clinical and translational research.  I am proud of the CBR team for their commitment to the CAP standards and the support they provide our faculty”

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest quality standards for biorepositories, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
