As we begin the new academic year, we are pleased to welcome Lana Garmire, Ph.D., to the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Garmire joins us as the new Bioinformatics Core Faculty Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics. She has rapidly risen to national recognition as a translational bioinformatics scientist leading a multidisciplinary team of computational and experimental human genomics.
Since her initial tenure-track faculty appointment in 2012, she has been awarded numerous NIH grants of over $8 million as the PI, including SBIR, K01, P20, and two concurrent R01s. She has significant publications and patents, including having published more than 50 papers in high quality journals including Cell and Nature, predominantly as the senior-author. She has served on many NIH study sections and is the editor of several bioinformatics/computational biology journals. She has mentored over 30 MD fellows, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates of various academic backgrounds.
Before joining the University of Michigan Medical School, she was a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center.
We’re very fortunate to have Lana’s expertise and experience. Please join me in extending a very warm welcome to her.
