There are a number of programs that offer research opportunities for students:

Whether or not you qualify for work study, you can contact the Office of Financial Aid to inquire about research positions.

If you have a specific area of interest, you can use our Michigan Experts search tool to find U-M researchers who have published work on that topic by doing a keyword search. Once you have found someone who appears to be a good match, you can find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory.

Once you have found someone who appears to be a good match for your interests, you can find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory. If the researcher agrees to consider you as a volunteer, connect with Michigan Medicine Volunteer Services to complete your application.

U-M’s Youth Hub website describes a number of summer programs for high school and middle school students. At Michigan Medicine, the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion hosts the annual Youth Summit for middle schoolers, and the Summer Pre-College Exposure Academy for high school students interested in medicine and research. Anyone who is underrepresented in medicine can apply, as well as anyone who would like to work in underserved communities in their future careers.

Unfortunately, we don’t have an organized program for foreign scholars who wish to participate in research at the University of Michigan.

Yes. You can use our Michigan Experts search tool to find U-M researchers who have published research on a particular disease or condition. You can do a keyword search which will return the names of researchers who have published in that field. You can then find their contact information in MCommunity, the U-M online directory.
